First, you’ll need to gather your supplies. You’ll need Vinyl, weeding tools, and transfer tape. You can find all of these supplies at your local craft store or online. Once you have your supplies, it’s time to get started!
1. Start by loading your vinyl onto your cutting mat. Make sure that the vinyl is lined up straight on the mat so that it will cut evenly.
2. Next, select the “ Vinyl ” setting on your Cricut machine. If you’re not sure which setting to use, consult your Cricut manual for more information.
3. Now it’s time to actually start cutting! Press the “Cut” button on your Cricut machine and let it do its thing.
4. When the cutting is finished, carefully remove the vinyl from the mat. If there are any pieces of vinyl that did not get cut all the way through, use a weeding tool to remove them.

To get started, select a design. For this project, we are going to cut out a simple shape.
1. Start by opening Cricut Design Space™. If you don’t have an account yet, you can create one for free.
2. Find an image in the search bar or browse the Design Library by category. For this project, we are going to use the “ shaped eye” design from the Classic Fonts vinyl pack in the Images tab.
3. Click on the design to insert it onto your canvas.
4. Click on the “Ungroup” button in the upper right-hand corner of the toolbar if your design is grouped with other images. This will allow you to move each layer of your design independently.
5. Adjust the size of your design using the resize handles or by entering dimensions in the “Size” box in the upper left-hand corner of the toolbar. For this project, we made our design 3” wide. Then, center your design on your canvas by clicking on the “Align” button in the upper middle of the toolbar and selecting “Center Horizontally” and “Center Vertically” from the drop-down menu. Your design is now ready to be cut!
6. To load your vinyl into your machine, first make sure that you have a cutting mat loaded into your Cricut explore® machine with the white mat side facing up and then click on “Load media” in Design Space™

How to Make a Stencil
1. Pick your design. If you’re not already a Cricut user, you can browse through Cricut Design Space for ideas. If you have already have a design in mind, you can upload it to Design Space to use.
2. Size your design. Once you have your design, you’ll need to size it to fit your project area. In Design Space, this is done by clicking on “Resize” in the top tool bar.
3. Mirror your image. This step is critical! You must mirror your image before sending it to be cut or else the vinyl will be cut backwards and unusable. To mirror your image, click on “Edit” in the top toolbar and then select “Mirror” from the drop-down menu.
