Materials
For this cake cutting method, you will need a cake, a knife, and a plate.
cake
You will need the following materials:
-One 8″ or 9″ cake pan
-A ruler or a cake leveler
-A sharp knife
-A wire cooling rack
Instructions:
1. Prepare your cake pan by greasing it lightly with cooking spray or butter, then dusting it with flour. This will help prevent the cake from sticking to the pan.
2. Place the cake pan on a baking sheet and bake your cake according to the recipe instructions.
3. Once the cake is done baking, let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire cooling rack to cool completely.
4. Use a ruler or a cake leveler to find the middle of the top of the cake, then cut through the center of the cake with a sharp knife.
5. Serve as desired and enjoy!

You will need a cake knife to cut a round cake. The cake knife should be sharp and have a serrated edge. You may also want to use a cake lifter to help you transfer the cake to a serving plate.
Steps
Before you begin, you will need the following supplies: a cake, a serrated knife, and a turntable (optional). If you do not have a turntable, you can use a plate. Make sure your cake is completely cooled before you start cutting. A warm cake is more likely to crumble and will be more difficult to cut.
Place the cake on a flat surface.
Before you begin, be sure to have all the tools you need within reach. You will need a sharp knife, a cake plate or serving platter, and a straight edge (ruler or other long, thin object).
1. Place the cake on a flat surface. If necessary, level the top of the cake with a serrated knife.
2. Using a sharp knife and a straight edge, cut the cake into two even halves.
3. Place one half of the cake on your serving platter or cake plate.
4. Using a sharp knife and a straight edge, cut the other half of the cake into two even quarters.
5. Place one quarter of the cake on top of the first half of the cake on your serving platter or cake plate, positioning it so that it forms a 90-degree angle with the first half. Repeat with the remaining quarter piece of cake so that you have four evenly-sized pieces forming a square on your serving dish.
Insert the cake knife into the cake about 1 inch from the edge of the cake.
Slowly saw the knife back and forth as you rotate the cake plate. Keep the knife perpendicular to the plate as you rotate it. The goal is to make a spiral cut around the edge of the cake that is about 1-inch from the edge of the cake. As you saw the knife back and forth, gradually work your way down into the cake so that you are making a cone-shaped cut out of the center of the cake. When you are about halfway down into the cake, stop cutting and remove the cone-shaped piece of cake.
Slowly rotate the cake knife around the circumference of the cake.
Slowly rotate the cake knife around the circumference of the cake, being careful not to press too hard or cut too deep. You should feel the blade slicing through the cake without much resistance. If you find that you are struggling to cut through the cake, it means that you are either pressing too hard or your blade is not sharp enough. In either case, stop and make the necessary adjustments.
Once you have made a complete circle around the cake, remove the top layer of cake and set it aside. If you find that the top layer of cake is difficult to remove, run your knife under hot water for a few seconds and then try again.
Now repeat the process with the second layer of cake, being sure to rotate the cake as you go so that each slice is even. Again, remove the top layer of cake and set it aside.
You should now be left with two even layers of cake that can be easily stacked on top of one another.
Carefully remove the cake slice.
1. With a serrated knife, carefully remove the cake slice.
2. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container.
Tips
A round cake is the perfect shape for special occasions like birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries. But when it comes to cutting and serving a round cake, things can get a little tricky. Here are some tips on how to cut a round cake so that you can enjoy every last bite!
For a more precise cut, use a cake leveler.
A cake leveler is a kitchen tool that helps you cut cakes into even layers. It’s a serrated blade attached to a handle, and you can use it to slice through the top of your cake, level off any domed surfaces, or create perfectly even layers.
If you don’t have a cake leveler, you can still cut even cake layers using a sharp knife and a ruler orBench Knife. Here’s how:
1. Use a sharp knife to cut around the circumference of the cake, about ¼-inch from the edge.
2. Cut two parallel slices through the middle of the cake, again about ¼-inch from the edge.
3. Turn the cake so that one of the slices you just made is facing up. Use your knife to make evenly spaced cuts through the cake, starting at the edge and stopping ¼-inch from the other side.
4. Repeat on the other side of the cake.
To avoid crumbs, place the cake slice on a piece of parchment paper.
To avoid crumbs, place the cake slice on a piece of parchment paper and then gently slide the knife under the cake to release it from the plate.
